Sage has powerful healing properties and is known to attract higher energies. So many people, spaces and objects we are surrounded by can easily drain energy. Smudging can help to cleanse this energy and bring it back to its purest form. The smoke purification elevates any setting they are burned in. Natural and soothing aroma helps you get rid of negativity and bad spirits, bringing positive energy to you and benefit for your health.
White sage has been used for centuries in ceremonies to seek blessings , ward off negative energies, and provide protection.
Sage is a plant that’s smoke once burned is specifically used to cleanse a space , the body , items and objects like crystals, tarot and oracle cards , and household items. It’s aroma provides peace and clarity and is great used during prayers, meditation and blessings . During meditation it helps provide a clearer focus and insight with its peaceful aroma, that also brings about a calming sense of harmony and positive energy with its highly spiritual cleansing properties that purify our energy fields.
When you burn sage, try waving the sage stick around all areas of the room especially in corners and down low in hidden dark areas or behind furniture , this then allows the smoke to attach to stagnant and negative energy which the smoke then releases out into open air of the earth , and once out in the light of the open air and earth , the energy is transformed into positive. Always remember to open a door and window to allow the smoke to leave .
To feel more connected to spirit try and burn sage as often as possible and create that sacred space for yourself so you can incorporate this into your spiritual practice. Sage brings mindfulness to your space and is one of the best methods of purifying, making that connection with your higher self and spirit guides , and most of all connecting you with the use of one of mother nature’s most sacred plants.
How do I get started:
I like to set an intention before starting; something simple like ‘please rid my home of any energy that no longer serves me and my family’,
Open a few windows and doors to help any smoke and negative energy leave easily.
Light your sage stick over your flameproof bowl until a small flame has caught. While holding your sage over the bowl lightly blow on the flame until it goes out. The sage will then smoke gently like incense. Remember that it’s the smoke that does the work and so the stick does not have to remain lit.
Walk around your home clockwise, carefully using your hands or a feather to waft the smoke into all areas of your space. Include all small spaces that collect negative energy like corners, windows and behind doors. It’s also good to open cupboards and wardrobes because they can also hold stagnant energy.
Remember that the goal is to allow a light amount of smoke to move around your space there’s no need to create a thick cloud of smoke!
You may need to relight the sage stick to make it around the whole house - simply relight it over your flameproof bowl and lightly blow it out as before. Then carry on where you left off. There are some who believe the sage stick should be left to smoulder rather than extinguish - this should only be done if you are able to stay with it while it burns. If not then extinguish it by lightly pressing the stick into earth, sand or into your fireproof dish. Never leave a lit sage stick unattended.
